The cover for the fuse box should have a list of what fuses go in where (I think side 1 is German and English, side 2 is French and Spanish). But if it's missing, mbz.org has a guide - but I think their site is down right now. It should tell you what # fuse is the clock - there is a sheet above the fuses with #'s on them.

If it isnt the fuse and you find the clock isn't seated right, look for one on eBay - I think they go for $10-$20 a piece. I assume you mean it doesnt work at all - and it does say on it that opening it will void the warranty.

But since you have some lights out AND your clock doesnt work, I'm wondering if the plug that goes into the cluster is lose (and thus isnt getting power to certian things) and/or some wires in it are broken.

What about the fusable link inside?

Don't know if I am following this thread correctly or not, but I am assuming that the clock is NOT working?

Had a similar question pop up last week on a veteran MB list here in Australia and I sent this link to the owner with the problem clock - I think it was a bit of help to him.

http://www.drivewerks.com/techarticles/mult_vdo_clock_repair/mult_vdo_clock_repair.htm

The article is about VDO clocks but the fusable link issue is the same on many makes of clock of the era. The failure of the fusable link is another reason that an otherwise correctly wired clock (with all external fuses being intact) fails to operate.

Hope this isn't off the mark of what you were inquiring about.

Cheers

Richard

thanks everyone for your input, zambo the link helped out ,i have a type 1 clock.everything checked out fine and did'nt see any problems,so i got into the ol'fish'n box and got out the reel oil gave it a little squirt and it took off.thats the coolest little clock, wish it was all the easy, thanks again.

p.s. was able to get my hand up in there just buy moving a couple of brakets, did'nt touch the emeg brake at all.but i did drop one light from the dash while i was replacing the bulbs ,don't know if i'll find it ,kind of a black void down in there.

Geez:

I dropped one of my bulbs too, it still rattles around somewhere behind the instruments, but I cannot get to it to remove it. Stinks, as I couldn't find the correct size anywhere and was forced to put the cluster back in without it (bad starter on the 300D, leaving me with only one running car....).

Nice to know that a bit of oil will cure my slow-when-it's-cold clock!

That's one of the thing about these cars. Every time I drive mine, I love it more! It's so smooth and sleek and just... like butter Not to mention its get-up-and-go! You should keep it just for a daily driver, if no other reason!
