I want to replace my distributor ( 0231187003 ) but the only part I can find new is 0231187002.. what's the difference and is this a good exchange?

Any more thoughts on this.. it's the only one listed in the fastlane catalog is the 0213187002 bosch distributor.. I foudn a place that list the 003 one but it is on severe back order.

This is just a guess on my part, but since the numbers are so close, I would think that the difference would be a minor change in the advance curve.

Is your current distributor no good?

You need a 1972 TDM, it has all the distributor numbers in it from the 1968-1972 cars. Mine's out in the garage. haven't had the time to go get it.

Buy the book, Fastlane should have it. Or as least I've pointedly asked them to carry them in the past. -CTH

The cam is worn down on the distributor and I can't get a proper gap and well I thought I'd just get a new one.

cth350: I have a TDM and guess what? they list my car as having a 0231142005 so I can only hope that the 0231187002 is newer replacement version of the distributor.
