Cars in my new garage!
I finally walled in my carport and
have my two cars inside. You'll see in the photo that I'm not quite done cleaning and finishing the garage. Still, the cars seem very happy even if they are a little stuffed in. The ponton wasn't happy starting up outside in the rain as it had been a couple of weeks since it last ran. Finally got it to go and put it in it's home. Now it's a lot warmer and it fires right up. The IPOG badge looks good on there, doesn't it? Vaughn.

I'm jealous. Wish I even had an un-walled carport.

Ditto that Mark.
At the Michigan house all I have is a gravel drive and a small shed. I'd kill for a small car port.

Mike,
Is your Michigan house in one of those developements where you can't even paint your mailbox a different color without litigation? We have no homeowners association where I live but I was recently told by someone (not with the county) that I can't add or build any improvements because the county has 'grandfathered' my neighborhood and won't issue any permits. Was recently told by a fellow vintage car owner that it's now a FELONY, in my county to possess an unregistered vehicle in my driveway (I haven't verified this either except my county's website still says it's a misdemeanor) I'm thinking of adding a 'temporary' carport cover, without the county's permission, if I can get one of those lightweight aluminum kits that can be put up easily (or, if needed, taken down easily). Happy Motoring, Mark

The Michigan house has no HOA but the California house does, which makes working on cars a challenge in its own way.
Not sure how much longer I'll be here so I'm leary of springing for a carport, although that might make for an easier sale. I have rehabed 1/3 of the house so far but lost an awful lot of headway since my surgery. Once I get the use of my arm again I plan on knocking out the redo on the bathroom, which should put me at 1/2 done.

I was thinking about one of those shallow-pitch aluminum carport kits, where one end bolts to the house and the other sits on a series of poles. There's one or 2 outfits near me that sell them installed, but not as a DIY kit. Online, I found DIY kits availible but most would require shipping from sunbelt areas like Texas, Arkansas or Florida. Snow loading would need some consideration here and, I'm sure it would be a serious concern in Michigan. A friend has one of these aluminum kits as a patio cover. It spans about 10 feet from house to poles and it has survived our occasional freak 20+ inch snowfalls without damage.
Unfortunately, he bought his house that way so he has no idea as to price or manufacturer of his kit. Happy Motoring, Mark
