72 250C what is it worth?

If I purchase this vehicle, it would be my first MB. I am familiar with the 250CE but not the 250C (F.I. vs Carb right?) and I am trying to figure out a fair price for this car.
Specs:
1972 250C
supposedly only 66,000 miles
asking $7500 (Seems high compared to what I have seen, but then all of the others had 120,000 miles)
Same owner last 27 years
If the mileage was actual, would this car be worth this kind of money?
If not, what would be a fair price?
I really like the look of the CE, are there any other differences in the C and CE besides the fuel delivery?
Anything I must be leary of when inspecting the car?
Thanks.....

7 THOUSAND? It would have to be pristine/show condition for that kind of cash.

An otherwise perfect specimin that needs nothing might fetch 3 or 4 thousand, but even that is suspect.

All figures in US$ from my perspective BTW. -CTH

Concur with CTH. If that mileage is actual and documented, paint perfect and original, mechanically perfect, not even a trace of rust, correct tires, maybe $4500, but it starts going down fast for any problems.

I must be very impatient....

HI, Thanks for the replies!
I cannot seem to find a 250CE at all (I have looked for two whole weeks!). I have seen 3 exceptional examples of the 250C and they were priced at 7500, 11000 and 15000, most others appeared mediocre! So are there excellent cars out there at 4500?
I must be getting very impatient in my old age (ex....."I have looked for two whole weeks!"), I dont really like to wait on anything.

Phal,
If you're looking in the US, a 250CE will be very hard to find as Mercedes didn't sell those here, only the carbureted 250C. Personally, I'd look for a rust-free 250C, with a stick-shift.

Happy Hunting, Mark

your reply about prices makes me wonder if we are indeed talking about the same currency. Mark & I were talking US$. Nobody in their right mind would ask for over 10,000US$ for a 250C.

You can find 250CE's in europe & Australia with ease. Very, very few will show up in the US. -CTH

I paid $1000.00US for a rusted, leaking and generally poor running 1976 280C. A bit of work on the carb and a tuneup left me with a rusted, leaking and strong running 1976 280C which I sold for $500.00US three years later. This is the same car as the 250C but with the M110 engine and US bumpers.

I then paid $1500.00US for a leaking, strong running 1971 250C that needs paint very badly. That's when I found out that the state of Washington uses NADA values for tax purposes. They valued the 250C at $4250.00US!
I wouldn't pay more than $2500-$3000US unless it were near perfect and without leaks. Since they appear to have had the leaks engineered in, I doubt I'll ever find one worth what NADA says they are.

US Dollars

All the prices I quoted were in US Dollars. The $15,000 dollar figure was a 250 that the guy had sunk $25,000 in. It was pretty much a new car at the end.

Phal,
Perhaps, in a year or two, you can buy that $15000 250C for $7500!
