Pins on Timing Chain Guide Rails

How do you remove the timing chain guide rails from the front of the engine block on an M130? The pins seem to be threaded internally, so do you put in a screw and pull it with a slide hammer? I was also considering using a screw and a stack of washers as a puller, but I wanted to know the correct method before I went and stripped something.

Thanks!

To pull the pins on my M117, I did the washer method. I don't know if it's the "official" way but I wouldn't use a hammer. You will strip those threads out if you apply side pressure at all, it must come out dead straight.

Well, Tomguy, I was referring to a slide hammer like you use to pull a dent. It has a sliding weight that pulls the screw straight out, not a claw hammer. I'll just get some washers though since that seems easiest.

Thanks!

this is my "special" tool

Check it out. The "block" part is a piece of key stock that has been drilled and tapped to the appropriate size. Make sure the threaded rod it bottomed out in the pin you are pulling or you will booger up the threads.
