Is Atlanta Georgia MB mecca for the USA? It seems alot were imported through port of Savannah and dealership network was well established in the 1960's.

240DieselDog,

I see 108's and 113's on the streets of atlanta at least 3 or 4 times a month. I've even seen a 600 here and there. Actually there is a guy who lives down the street from me with a 250C.

Beautiful engine. Beautiful car. I'd love to get one like that. Early automatic too, park is twards the back of the car. It was later switched to the forward position.

I have heard that before, and I see some regularly in the yards, but never on the road. If there are a few, I wouldn't mind having a get together at one of the local pubs in Atlanta (with a beer garden) to see all these cars.

108's are the most beautiful car MB ever made IMHO.

That is a stunning example.

Everybody, write this down. I am going to buy one of these cars one day to restore and enjoy, but it will have to be a 4.5.

Thanks for the all of the complements! The car only has 56,000 miles on it and it drives beautifully! No rust in any of the usual places either! It does need sub-frame mounts, engine mounts, a drag link and/or tie rod ends. I am sure more rubber components need replacing than what I have mentioned, i just haven't gotten that far into the car yet

I've driven a few 4.5's, but I just love the way the straight 6 in this car sings at 65MPH. Even though the 6 is not a rocket like the 4.5 I think it has plenty of power for normal cruising.

Sweeeet!
I'm insanely envious. The first Benz I ever drove was a 108 280SEL Dad bought new when I was 18, and it's still my favorite of all the cars I've driven. What I really envy is you lucky dogs who live where you can drive a car like that and not worry about salt without having to lay it up half the year!

The six wasn't nearly as powerful as the later V8, but I loved its character. If I didn't have to deal with either rusting it out or storing it to death, I'd have one in a heartbeat.

So is anyone up for a W108 GTG?

I got a response from a guy in KY but no one in Atlanta!

Say thinking man's pub in Decatur sometime in May/Jun. They have a beer garden, good beer and pretty decent food.
