I have always envied and coveted people savvy enough to have purchased these sexy cars (which I think have only available in Mercedes dealers from 1977 through the 1981 model years). There were far less of them sold than the 240 and 300 diesel models, though due to the irony of history, the diesels command more interest and a higher price, these days..
That's real low mileage for one of those, so if it's in nice condition, without rust or body damage, then it's a good price. even better if it has the books and records and good tires brakes, transmission and engine. I just glanced at the pictures, and it looked like it had the updated bundt cake wheels rather than the painted hubcaps. It looked like a U.S. spec car with US D.O.T. lights, and US bumpers, probably MB tex and power windows and likely tinted windshield and probably aircon, disc brakes and automatic. Is that pretty close? This was the ONLY W123 gas engine sedan you could get in the USA, that, its first year, and it was extremely expensive, at around $18,000 new, for a small sedan. However, as Motor Trend said, which did a test of them, what is the value and worth of an original Chippendale highboy or a flawless immaculate gleaming 3 carat diamond? It was worth, quite simply, what an informed, intelligent and aware customer was willing to pay, and Mercedes Benz expected that there were thousands of such Americans willing to step up to the plate and pay. It would seem that going onto 30 years after Mercedes Benz decision to bring these cars into the US market, that Mercedes estimate was indeed correct.

you are correct...and NO RUST
aircon, disk brakes etc. It was one of the first luxury cars for america rolling out of germany.
the car is in really good shape, NO RUST. everything works, except I had to do the heat bypass due to the dreaded servo failure. Heat works, but only on defrost and on hi. (see threads under Heat servo bypass 280E) I do have the painted hubcaps, the wheels you see are hubcaps as well.

Actually, there was a US 123 gas 230 in 1977-78.
The 280E's are very nice cars. I had one for five years and converted it to a four speed. I hope you get your price.

Beautiful
That is a beautiful car indeed. I do hope you get your price. If only I were in a position to buy it. I love those m110 engines. Had one in my 79 280S and it had done 250K miles before I let it go. Carbureattor and rust issues.
- Peter.
