My German FireTruck Turned Camper Beast
My neighbor purchased this 1969 L408 Van a few years back as a project. Originally it was painted red, had the rotating gumball lights on top, and the coat of arms of a small german town on the side.
He changed a lot since then: •Swapped in a Chevy 350 to replace the very underpowered 4 Cylinder (it had a top speed of only 100 km/hr ) •Painted it blue and spent a small fortune on diamond plate •New rear-end and much larger tires •3 large solar panels mounted on the roof, combined with a huge 20amp inverter and three banks of deep-cycle batteries mounted und the floor •The addition of a microwave and (very oddly) an integrated toaster.... and a natural gas tank on the roof for a stove •Installed high-security locks on all the doors and had panels made to lock-down over the windows (The whole thing can be secured quite completely and left in the desert for some time, according to my neighbor) Basically I have been working on it tracking down a variety of wiring issues (a lot extras have been installed and there is quite a rats nest of wiring) and scrubbing it down as it was quite infested with mice and wasps My question to you all is where to find a replacement windeshield as the one on the beast was struck with a rock from a rogue lawnmower? I have been having some problems finding parts for this creature in the states and if anyone knows of a good supplier I would love to know about. Last but not least: Have any great ideas of what it needs now?

Cool. Too bad about the chebby engine.
Every so-often somebody posts a "Mercedes Truck Windsheld" up on portland's craigslist. You should keep an eye out there.

So, what's the intended goal for this vehicle, to make it into a camper? Looks like it would work well for that.

Your camper is very cool! Is the blue tarp used for an awning? I would get a retractable awning from a camper and mount that instead, it would look cleaner and you could paint the housing to match. Or maybe you could rig one up with PVC tubing and a hand crank.
