Drop that sub-pan and clean it
Think motor mounts while under there.

Well now as onwner of the most documented W115 restoration "Libby" I would add rear diff into the equation, but I am wondering, why the rush to get it started?
Just start at the front and work your way back, rubber, valves, gaskets, fluid ect , all the things listed.
Seems to me that a car that is as pristine as you suggest that bringing her back to life should be an ejoyable and dedicated process. Do it right the first time and she will be good for another 50 years. Good luck

Thank you everyone, I am not in a hurry and like you say, I should enjoy the process.

But let's face it. What's more fun than firing it up that first time after decades of sitting. I'm never that patient. I have to hear it run and at least take it around the block.....even if I'm not hitting on all cylinders and am trailing smoke. Just part of the fun!

I hate to say but you should pull the gas tank have it cleaned and change strainer. I would not old gas from tank run a fuel line from pump to fresh gas in a can with some injector cleaner.

I'd like to see pics of a sitting 4.5 with 29,000 miles. Sounds cool!

I'd take any 5 digit odometer reading with a grain (or pound) of salt. Remember, even if that car has been sitting since 1992 it still was driven for 20 years prior to that. It could easily have 129K on it over 20 years and still look great. Unless you have been given meticulous service receipts to document the odometer reading all cars are "TMU" IMHO.

Even if you buy from the family of the original owner they do not know all the facts. I bought a 300SD from the son of the original owner...sold it to me swearing it was all original despite the fact that I showed him the proof of a repaint...then he admitted his father must have had it painted at some point and not told him...it happens.

280 Sel 4.5

What a great find with such low milage. If the engine spins you will probably get it running. I have several of the EFI 4.5's and some have sat for many years and started one did seize by the way. When it does start it will probably be dragging a few cylinders due to stuck injectors. I have always found if you put a can or two of Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel tank will work wonders. Once it starts let it idle you may have keep your foot on the gas or prop a brick or stick against the pedal to keep it running. Keep an eye on the temp gauge to make sure it opens and does not overheat. My cars some of which have sat for years have always come around dragging as many as 6 cylinders for the first few minutes to running on all eight after maybe an hour or so. You will be amazed that the fuel injectors will begin to open and close again if you use the Marvel Mystery. Good Luck

clean the fuel tank it's got to be full of crap with the fuel being in there since 1992. BYT I am also resurrecting a car that has been not run since 1992. I don't know where it was but there are BUGs and Bugs nest all under the hood and under the car. I forgot good to check the air cleaner for field mice
