Precision w111 steering
Wow! Having my rubber coupling in the steering column replaced has transformed my car! I can't believe how stiff and exact the wheel is now. The car doesn't wander whatsoever and drives straighter than my girlfriend's 2005 saab (although that's not such a great feat) It's on its original never-adjusted steering box. The good people at E.A.S. are miracle workers.
I'm running the original wheels and tire size of 185/80/13. I think they are firestone radials, which were the only ones available at the time I bought them last May. Originally I had bought them in a pinch after a flat, but they DO have a thin whitewall that looks correct and now I think I'll just keep them. If anyone wants to buy some 15" w124 alloys let me know! This car steers better than my w123 240D ever did and is easily the nicest driving old car I've ever owned. My 67 cadillacs don't even come close. Based on this, and the fact that the suspension is compliant and silent, can I concur that my subframe bushings are in good shape?

I think subframe bushings were more a performance issue with rear wishbone balljoint susp 114/115's than with kingpin Benz 111's either front or back. Replaced em on both 114's I've owned but never touched em on my 111's or 110. Though you'll probly find them cracked and crumbly if ye get to em. Meanwhile swaybar bushings too, if not outright replacing the entire swaybar thats oughta be less than $150 in parts. And aint it the truth that kingpin Benz rides like its on rails, arguably the best road car MB's ever built.
