Night Vision Head light Vintage Benz
Hi Forum Pals,
Anybody knows who makes, manufactures, or sells infered night vision headlights or headlight bulbs for my old vintage cars, or older benz like 220D Benz? I am moving to a very dark rural area with lots of trees and I can not see too good in the night. I do drive a lot in the night. Any information on website, Company name, or phone number will be very helpful. thanks dpl |

Ok I'll bite, why don't you just fit additional spot lights or upgrade your headlights to a gas discharge system. Infrared headlights will work if you have special goggles or a camera/monitor but wont give you any extra range and no one will see you coming at night. I actually find my SatNav helps at night or driving on unfamiliar roads but only as a supplement ;-)

Spot Lamps would be the way to go. Modern ones are seriously bright and the guy belting down the opposite direction will also see you coming.

Replacing the "sealed" beams with a Bosch OR Hella lens with "H" bulb would be a good starting point.

To GaryF,
I am talking about the night vision headlight technology that Cadilac developed in 2000. this is the same techonlogy that is used in the malitary. All Cadilacs headlights have that new night vision system. Than BMW, Mercedes Benz, Audi, and last Lexus follow with a better system. Thanks to M.B. Doc, alabbasi, and all who give me a lead and info on what to do. dpl |

I second MB Doc in recommending the Hella H4's. I replaced my dim sealed units w/ Hellas and it's almost too bright for city use. It's not the night vision you're looking for, but if safety is the concern, these more than fit the bill.
Got mine from **************.com. |

Are you talking about a HUD for displaying it on the dash like newer MBs have? Not going to happen unless you want to shell out several grand.
If you want modern safety features, buy a modern car. Otherwise, do the headlamp upgrades others have suggested!

I think I know what dpl means, 30 years ago I was in the brit army, artillery, and the gun tractors had infrared bulbs in the headlights along with the normal bulb. you had to put on infrared sensitive goggles and then turn off the headlights and you could see the road with the light from the infrared light bulbs. could go haring down the road in total darkness as far as anyone else was concerned! with the caddy they have the IR bulbs and at night the ir picture is shown on a screen on the dash to supplement normal headlights.
I have to agree with the others though you would be better off changing your bulbs or adding spotlights, it lets others see you as well. I have euro headlights on my 450sl and have put in H4 60 / 90 bulbs and the difference is quite remarkable. cheers barri
