CAMSHAFT Oil Tube fittings

For an M117 Engine:

Can I modify the x.983 8mm oil tube mounts to accept the 10mm tubes and fittings?

I've compared the two (in photographs) and the only modification that I can see is the absence of some of the material, which I can EASILY duplicate.
OR is there also a difference in the size of the hole that would accept the fitting?

I ask because I fear I may have misplaced (read thrown away) my 8mm tubes, while cleaning the garage...

If not, the I'll just have to get another set..

I have both. the 8mm and 10mm towers. is there much of a decrease in oiling capability? Surely they made the change because they were having oil issues?

Not sure, I never had cam wear issues in my 280SEL 4.5. That had mechanical lifters though.
They made the change over sometime in the mid to late 70's.

afaik, the switch happened when they went from cast iron to aluminum blocks. You would need the towers and if doing the swap, you probably should put in the cams that go with the towers. Putting on 3.8, 4.2, 5.0 or 5.6 cams might not be the best thing for the 4.5 though (never seen the cam profile numbers so you may lose a lot of power but then again you may gain some).

My 4.5's cams died due to these tubes being clogged - they weren't clean and debris clogged the oiler holes. Keep them clean and they work fine.
Clean those camshaft oilers... PLEASE!
