Looks tight. I would suspect the exh manifolds might hit the inner fenders when the engine moves on the mounts.

Interesting set up in a W116. I doubt they will get anywhere near $12,500 for the car.
What's with the 280SE and pirated 6.3 badge?? |

Looks like a clean install. I'd like to see the details.

i dont believe its a very clean install, look at the fuel filter hanging on the fender with two plastic ties. look at the Loooooooooong hose for the A/C. It does look kind of good, but i believe not so clean. I think we shall ask for more pictures from this guy to post them here.

The AC suction line is like that on the later W116's. There is a fuel cooler just next to the zip-tied fuel filter, but although it is plumbed up to the AC there are no fuel lines going to it.

How'd he get the gated shifter console to work with that trans?
I think it's a neat idea...was toying with an LS engine if my M110 ever dies...just thinking, don't shoot me yet.

German's build good cars, American's build good motors. Works for me.
I don't think I could (properly) rebuild the head on my M110 for what I can build an honest 300hp small block chevy for these days.

You should have said America builds cheap motors, having worked on enough Chev V8's to know that they are just cheap and nothing else.
This is just another in a very long line of old mercedes re-powered with a SBC. To fit one in requires the tubular cross member to be cut and reversed and a trans mount with appropriate uni joint for the shaft. To fit the merc shifter you can either fit a switch to the trans or as on one here, fit microswitches inside the shifter housing . The Later LS series engine and trans option is a better idea as the drive shaft flex disc is identical to the mercedes disc. The trans mounts even line up the same . All in all though, nothing beats the real deal,i would have a merc engine over a SBC any day. |
