3.5/4.5 Trigger points no longer available?

Called up Benz Dealer in Seattle,WA to order a set and they said it was no longer available, what?
Then called up Simonson in Santa Monica, CA where I buy parts when i'm in California and they said same thing NLA.

Will check with the classic center on Monday? has anyone run into this recently?

Don't see why...I just bought a Fuel Gauge Sender for a 1959 190SL.

My understanding is Mercedes is one of the few manufactures that do have grandfather parts....unlike GM...obsolete in 10 years.

Usually you do not need new, just a good cleaning, unless the rubbing blocks are worn is there dust inside the trigger points chamber?

Do a search on this site. Put in 'those blasted trigger points again' because I remember a thread from 2009 on this very thing.

Car sat for 15 years in a damp barn, hood left open with cap off water dripped perfectly in the distributor for 15 years. needless to day. Cleaning is not an option, the entire distributor is rusted chunky. Only solution is complete distributor, points & trigger points.

The centrifugal weights advance system may be rusted.
How about a good used distributor?
What is the number on the body?

You can get a rebuilt set of trigger points from the Classic Centre on an exchange basis. But sounds like yours may not be welcomed by them! Anyway, cost of doing it this way is exorbitant. Somewhere around $1100.

Look for a distributor off any MB V-8 of the same vintage. Bosch say the points are good for 100k miles based on wear of the fibre can followers. But, I have bent mine and extended their life (Method not ready for real time yet!)

Good points about the weights being frozen. You probably need to strip the distributor down and get everything loosened up. I did this on two distributors - see here.

A friend bought a new V8 4.5 distributor years ago and stunned me with the cost. about $800

Whew, I'm glad that I've been picking these distributors up in the pick-a-part yards for $15. When I take it to the cashier, I smile and say "No it is NOT an electronic unit, it has points"
Smoke it right past them.

If one adds up the price of the pressure sensor, trigger points, brittle engine harness etc. Megasquirt becomes obvious. The Djet system is really easy to convert and this can be done without it to show too much.

Crazy prices for those parts, Megasquirt it

Accumulating those parts is a passion, most of those would have been crushed, melted and come back as hundos, or toyos, or hondos
10-15 yrs ago nobody wanted these parts.

Gael, Got yours running yet?

I would convert to MS if all else fails, but I have been lucky enough to accumulate spare MPS, Distributor, Temperature sensors & AAV and car still runs well.

Still need to find a spare ECU (0280002005). Also would like a surplus Fuel Pressure Regulator (0280161002) - want to experiment with it (drill vent hole to help with vapor locking as MB at one time suggested)
