Every vintage rally car needs a cupholder, right? We purchased a nice wood center tray from a Coupe to replace our plastic standard issue. To that we added an insert made of wood and stained it to match the dash as close as possible. It isn't really that close but they are far enough apart.

I added a slit to the left of the Starbucks Grande to hold my iPhone vertical. The insert lifts out so you can get to the screws that secure it to the trans tunnel.

Looks great! If you wanted to match it closer, you'd have to add clear to it but I think it looks pretty good as it is.

Clever, cool and wouldn't seem out of place to most people who don't know these cars. Great mod! You could fab these up and sell them to other owners.

I want to fabricate a wood tray for the center of my 280sel with a cup holder and dividers still don't know how I am going to work it all out.

I did come up with a cup holder that has some room on the side for my phone. It's kind of crude as I am not even close to being a carpenter but it works and doesn't look that bad. I attached it by using the stock screw holes with slighlty longer screws so it can quickly be returned to stock. It holds my travel mugs and most water bottles. I made it from some scrap cherry I had and I made a little sisal insert for the tray that matches my sisal floor mats.

Mint2me you did a great job with yours It looks like it could have came from the factory if they made I phones back then. I which I had a wood tray for the 280sel I might have been able to do something a little nicer.

Nice job! Ours is working out nicely. We have discovered that although our precious Starbucks cups fit, some water bottles don't. But if you make it too big, the cups would move around too much. We are happy though.

Here's my version (made out of suede).

Will soon switch over to zebrano wood (think it looks nicer; just got wood shifter and re-did my dash paneling).

These are all Awesome examples!! I have been jamming my brain for a good cup holder that would not look like it is out of place.

The one that would look most out of place is the lousy fold-out one that MB (or whoever) made that people attached to their doors...

Obviously I am going to have to break out the band saw this weekend - you guys have really beat me to it! I find it a real challenge to shift gears while holding two Starbucks cups between my legs . . . but it can be done!
