Newly purchased 1966 250SE
Hi there, as this being my first post I thought i'd just show a few pics of my newly purchased 1966 250SE 4sp Auto.
http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_4958.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5310.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5309.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5306.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5305.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5102.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5101.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_5003.JPG http://home.iprimus.com.au/manyas/AUT_4958.JPG Atm, it has a few problems, but the main problem is the thing we all fear, and that's rust, but on the 24th of march I'm taking it to get that all fixed. The other anoying problem i'm having is when the airconditioner was installed in the 70's, they really hacked there way in the enginet, as the hoses are in really anoying places, and it's really frustrating when trying to clean the air filter. Hopfully sometime soon I will have the time to completely remove the aircon and reinstall it. Antway, Hope you like it |

Cool a RHD too. Looks nice, even has the optional arm rests AND cushion insert for the center console.

Very nice.
What are those things in between the headlights and the grill? They look like screens. I've never seen anything like 'em. The interior is in very nice shape, too, especially the wood.

Looks nice. Spiff up the engine compartment and it will look even better. Take care of the wood interior too. The wood at the base of the windshield has nuts under the dash so they just unbolt. Refinish them and the other wood trim and the car will look 10X better.
The A/C compressor and it's bracket hide an importand hose between the thermostat and the water pump. It's hard to replace even without A/C. Regards

Wow! Looks very nice. My 250 is actually in the process of getting a make-over right now. New exhaust, new windshield, tranny service, and a new paint job! I can't wait to get it out. I would also like to refinish the wood, but I've never dont it before and cannot afford to pay someone. How would you guys recommend doing it?

Take a section of the wood off and go to your local big box hardware store, such as Home Depot. Visit the paint department and speak to someone there about the refinishing. There are various solvents available to strip the wood and sandpaper available too.
Follow the advice and refinish the wood using the recommended products. You can also watch various TV shows on refinishing, the names escape me. Careful stripping, staining and using either polyurethane or varnish will do the trick. You could also try new veneer. regards

I plan to do that quite soon, I had a stab when I first got it to take the wood at the windsheild base off, but had a hard time getting the nut off in the middle. Looks like i'll have to take out the radio. |

That wood is worth having nice. I had a '72 108 back when the car was barely 5 years old, and all the wood was still shiny and mint. It really adds to the elegance of the car Nice car BTW. Hope your country is RHD...

Well, I just got the car back from the Road worthy inspector. Seems there's quite a few things wrong, though all fixable I suppose.
Anyway, here is the lovely list. R/H Tail Lens Cracked, H/Brake Warning light inop, R/R Window won't open fully, Rear Shockers (worn), L Inner Tie Rod End, No reverse lights, P Steering Box leaking, Steering dampner weak, Adj W/Bearings. I didn't list the rust since as I stated before, this is being fixed on the 24th, but looks like I need to get to work. Though, any suggestions on how I might go about fixing some of these things would be apreaciative |

R/H Tail Lens Cracked, - recycler or e-bay
H/Brake Warning light inop, - probably switch, maybe bulb R/R Window won't open fully, - remove door trim, check mechanism Rear Shockers (worn), - replace L Inner Tie Rod End, - have shop replace and align front end No reverse lights, - probably switch on trans P Steering Box leaking, - look carefully, may actually be a hose, would try a chemical before replacing - quite a chore. Steering dampner weak - replace Adj W/Bearings - shop, need a dial guage. Davide Frada at mb300sel@ozemail.com.au is a great resource for saving money on parts and really knows his cars!

Thanks a bunch! I actually just finished polishing all the chrome and picked her up at the paint place this afternoon. Looks great and runs even better! I can't wait until my mechanic puts all the trim back on and I can bring her down to San Diego! I will post pics of her when I get her down here.

Well, I've found that the handbrake light problem is indeed the globe. Has anyone got any diagrams on how I could remove the front of the dash? Maybe scan the page? (I'm in the process of getting a manual)
Also, does anyone have any diagrams pointing out the locations of all the grase nipples, as I have only found 4, and thought there might be a lot more. Thanks |
