Saving a 114 coupe
There's a '74 280C (114 chassis) nearby with a dead engine (chain broke, etc.). I also know where there's a freshly rebuilt 1970 Mustang inline 6 (250 cubic inches, 4.1 liters) with transmission.
Any chance that might be a fairly simple conversion? As it is, the 280C just sits there rusting itself to death, and there's no way I could afford to put another MB engine in it. |

Better take some measurements. That 2.8 (approx 168 cid) is already a tight fit in that 280C. I'll bet that 250 cid Mustang engine is longer, but at least the exhaust is on the correct side.
Happy Motoring, Mark

By the time you get the Ford engine in place, you will have spent more than the cost of rebuilding the 2.8L. Sump is on the wrong end (rear), almost certainly too long, the tranny is too big for the tunnel, and you will have to custom make a driveshaft.
Decent condition 2.8L M110 engines can be found at many a junkyard, and if you pick up an early K-jet one, you can easily convert to K-Jet and dispense with the Solex carb -- even Solex couldn't get it working perfectly! Peter
