Cleaning 30 of Gunk??? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

I am getting tired of the crap that has accumulated on the sides and under the engine but haven't decided what is the best way to clean it off. I am a bit nervous of using steam cleaning with all the old wiring and etc. Plus, my tolerant spouse would not tolerate a driveway with oil/grease/mud running done it if I tried some of the "Gunk" and hose methods.

So, what has worked well for you folks? No, a new spouse is not an option.

I got both the Wal*Mart el generico Engine Degreaser, as well as the Gunk stuff. The Wal*Mart one worked better, in my opinion, and it's cheaper. Buy about 3 or 4 cans of the stuff. Get a 2gal spreayer (if you dont have one) and fill with hot water. Go to your place of choice, spray a can or two of the stuff all over, then wait 5-10 mins, then clean it off with the sprayer. Let the dripping slow, then spray with more degreaser, wait 5-10 mins, then clean off w/the sprayer again. I got a LOT of crud off with just one application, nevermind two! I think you'll be pleased. My distributor and coil both still (somehow) have their original plastic caps, but if yours are missing, cover them with some old plastic shopping bags before spraying. I also put a bag in the air intake horn (just in case I got clumsy)

Tom, I like the idea of the garden sprayer. Besides, if I have left over insecticide in it then I can minimuze the creepy crawlees.

In all seriousness, tks for the info, I will get some of the Wal-Mart stuff.

hey litton,drive over to the tripe t truckstop,go over to the wash bay,get some de-greezr from them.then go to a spray wash place close to your house,and get after it.the de-greaser they use for big trucks is powerful stuff and will get down to the metal.i sprayed it on my motor then drove to the pressure wash seems that the combo of the de-greaser and a warm motor worked just right.also if you got the extra change you can have those ol'boys at the truck wash do it.

ps get some aluminum brightener from those guys you'll be surprised.

oh,yeah stay out of the back row of the parking lot and waqtch out for the lot lizards(horizontal highway hostesses)lol
