108 front lube points?
hey all, read here that there are 14 lube points on the 108 front. Was under the beast today and only found 12 -- top and bottom control arms (A-frames) on each side and the top and bottom of each kingpin. Tha equals 12, what am I missing?
Also, on the occasions when I must drive the 108 without a thorough warm-up I have noticed at my first few throttle lift-offs, the car distinctly lags, as if the electrical were shutting down for about one-half second. No backfiring or missing, just an obvious slowing. Once warm, its gone. Has a new fuel pressure regulator as well as the new proper plugs and wires. Seems like a fuel delivery issue? I have a new fuel filter in hand but have yet to install. Have not even checked the timing since otherwise it purrs... Thanks. |

kpb: As far as I know, it should act like it's "shut off" - mine won't stall either but if it's cold, it's definetly noticeable that the engine sounds like it's "dead" if I take my foot off the throttle with it in the lower RPM range. There's a fuel cutoff that's supposed to occur around 2500-1500RPM or so when you're off the throttle, and I think it's more pronounced when cold (when the engine needs even more gas).

I can recall right now but I think there are three at each kingpin; top, bottom and side.
Don't forget the zerks at the rear axle.

Thanx guys
Tom -- Yup, that is it. Good to know it is not anything failing.
Mike -- I'll give a peek again, sounds like I missed the side zerk on the kingpins. Also, will be crawling around under the axle tomorrow, plus, I expect my universal may have one as I have only one flex disk in my driveline. Now another query, Whilst under the front end today (which is a mess with many oil pan and tranny leaks to be located) I noticed a device in the tranny line (return line?) coming from the radiator on the RH side bolted to the block. It looks somewhat like a regulator, what is this?? |

Hell yes, there's nipples on the U-joints.... also half way down the drive shaft itself. Gotta raise both rear wheels and rotate them to allign driveline fittings. Then there's a couple more on massive knuckles of the rear swing axles. Easily a happy chore considering the amazing ride that old world suspension systems provide. Here's a lube chart for the 108. Not the best scan in the world. Also an excellent chance to brush up your German.

The regulator is the oil temperature thermostat. Be careful around it, it's easy to break.
The center fitting on the steering knuckle is on the rear of the left side and on the front of the right side (or the reverse, I'm rather dyslexic and cannot remember). Turn the front wheels to the right and you can reach both of them easily. Peter
