HELP!!!mercedes 300td wheel lug bolts stripped.

Hello I have a 1984 300td wagon. I purchased the car recently . 'well I took the car in to get some new tires. When I returned to pick up the car the cashier gave me a stripped out lug bolt. Well long story short, I now have 2 stripped out wheel stud bolts on one front wheel, and no admission of liability from the shop. There appears to be damage to the (wheel adapter? or the part the wheel lug bolts screw into?) I assume this adapter piece is replaceable, as I looked at a brake disc thinking the wheel bolts threaded into the brake disc itself, and the threaded portion is not present. My question is two parts. I have a 1979 300sd parts car I believe the brake rotors are different, but will the wheel adapter from the '79 SD work on my '84 TD wagon? and if so how do you remove the adapter. I have not removed the brake disc yet. Is the lug bolt adapter plate riveted to the brake disc or is it bolted from inside the disc? or do i need to helicoil the threads in the adapter.? any help would be appreciated
thanks

The lug bolts thread into the flange of the hub. To remove the rotor, you will need to remove the entire front hub. Remove the dust cap, lock nut and main nut and then pull the hub off of the spindle. The rotor bolts on from the inside with, I think, a 10 mm allen wrench. You may need an impact wrench to get them out. Make sure that the allen wrench is fit into the bolt head well. An application of a penetrating lubricant would be a good idea.

As for the stripped threads, I do not know the compatibilty between the two hubs that you have. Try the local auto recycler. Either way, I would get new bearings. Assembly has been discussed on the forum, so do a search for a hub rebuild.

The last piece of advice is to not have the tires changed by tire guys who do not know what they are doing. As stated before on the forums, these bolts are to be installed by hand and finished with a torque wrench.

Good luck.

another thing you might want to consider is tapping the 12mm hole to a 14mm hole
you can get the same stud in 14mm from benz
problem solved without taking parts off and replacing them
