560 SEC: 17" or 18" wheels?

I need help!

I am about to buy new wheels for my 560 SEC 1991 and I cannot decide between 17" and 18".

I need pictures of 560 with 18" wheels to get a better idea of the look.

Thanks

Christian

I'm putting 17" AMG wheels from a CLK on mine. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them put on.

You know, you can go to Tire Rack's website and try out different wheels on your car to see how they look. I can't remember how much leeway you have on wheel diameter, but it's fun to play around with. Check that out, if you haven't already.

Question

there is a lot of pictures on the net, but they dont indicate if the wheels are 17", 18" or 19" and my eye is not experience anought to identify them by size.

I whant a classic sporty look, but I dont whant my car toto look like the one of a "rapper" or a drug dealer!

bests regards

17" wheels are probably the largest you want to go, if that's the case.

I think you are right. Bigger than that, you loose the classic look.

I'll go back to the "Tire rack" and try to find the fonction your talking about...

thanks again

17" were the size AMG put on the w126, however I've heard mixed reviews about running an 18" wheel. Some say it wears out your wheel bearings quicker, others say its fine.

I would not put anything bigger than 16" on the car.

The W126 2nd gen. cars (1986-1991) came with 15" wheels, and the cars were not engineered for 17", 18" or larger wheels.

There could be issues of tire scrubbing on the wheels, adverse effects on steering geometry and handling, incorrect speedometer readings and other issues that could come into play.

I used the tire rack website and finally bought a set, last year of painted replica ASA W140 S class wheels and some chromed star center caps used by the W220 S class, for a very pleasing look at a modest cost and no performance problems above 120 mph (yes I did go that fast.)

July 17, 2008 view of that set up..16" wheels fill the wheel wells nicely, even when the car is lowered as this one is.

That SEC is looking very shiny in your picture, Jim. Did you get it painted or something?

I am dying for a AMG set on my 500 SEC but it has the 15' chrome flat set of wheels and looks good. but the look is the AMG wheel for this car..the other set ups do not do the SEC justice in my opinion...but that is what opinions are for! I like that look on the car..I bought the chrome centers, and it really makes a diff on alloy.
