Quiet, smooth tires wanted for SL500
Luke -
I've spent hours on a bunch of forums looking for advice on this; looks like I finally found the right place. I just bought a 2002 SL500 w/ 14,000 orig. miles. Car has orig. tires on it, Michelin Pilot Sports (the original Pilot Sports, NOT PS2). Tires are in great shape, but they are VERY noisy and ride rough. I'm not looking to do any "extreme" driving. I'm looking for a tire that will ride smooth and quiet. What would you recommend? Can you recommend a high and lower cost alternative? Thanks ! |

Any tires that are near the end of their useful tread life will be noisy and perform poorly.
I've had three sets of Michelin Pilot Sports on my previous and current E430, and I find them to be incredibly smooth and quiet. In fact, I briefly had mounted a set of BF Goodrich g-force sport tires, and they were awful. I returned them a few days later for the Michelins.
