Primacy/Michelin Opinion
I need tires for junior (300TD) Primacy/Michelin seem to be the *****. At
140 per tire do they seem worth it? Should I just go with cheapies? IF they last a long time, it might be worth it. On another note, I'll be getting an alignment as well. There seems to be a question about the use of a "spreader bar". Some shops don't have one. Should I just buy TireRack and take them to the dealer for install and align? Is that the best chance of getting it done properly?

Recommend having your local MB dealer mount/balance tires from Tire Rack, then do an alignment. It's likely you will have to bring the loose tires to the dealer in your trunk. Our local MB dealer won't accept drop shipments from Tire Rack. Check with your local MB dealer for their policy.

Couldn't tell you how they will be on a w123, but on my VW Passat TDI Wagon,
The Primacys gave me a 2-3 miles per gallon decrease over the stock ContiTachs. Other then that, they provided good traction on a heavily snowed in I5 Grapevine and thought they provided great wet traction. And have been wearing in nicely after 25,000 miles of use. .

The liklihood a given alignment shop can do a Mercedes correctly is pretty small, but even smaller is the notion that someone on an Internet forum is familiar with the shops in your area. Ask a local independent Mercedes mechanic where to go.
A Mercedes dealer in any event is the best bet, as there's no such thing as an "alignment" that doesn't involve parts replacement. That is, if an "alignment" is required, of course.

Nor are there many suspension parts replacements that don't require an alignment, unfortunately. Do it all at once, save money and save tires.

Bought Tire Rack
I bit the bullet, and got MXV4 Primacy, in a size that was not my first choice. After reading for a couple days, I went from wanting 225-50-16 Primacy, to 225-50-16 Exalto like my wife's, to 215-55-16 Primacy, to 205-55-16 Primacy, that were "Green X" low rolling resistance. I learned that the difference between 205/225 isn't a lot, and 50 to 55 isn't that great. I like the "beefy"look of the 225-50-16s on my wife's BBS 8's and 9's, but on my CLK wheels,I have 205-55-16 Toyo Proxes that look and perform just fine. So 205-55-16it is. I'll report back on Tire Rack performance, as well as the tire performance. Tread warranty is 60K. If my fuel mileage stays the same or better, good. I drive "hard" but don't expect a lot from a wagon. The Toyo Proxes 16", were so far much better in "feel" than the stock 14" Bundts, thatanything a bit short of that will be OK with me. 50 series would have made the speedo more accurate, but I don't care that much to figure out exactly.I want "the middle" of it all. Acceptable treadwear length first, crisp handing second, low noise third, ride fourth.
