Primacy
3 tanks of fuel. No change in mileage. 20-23 mpg. Same as always. These tires are advertised as Low Rolling Resistance. I LOVE the tires and have no guilt on the amount spent for them, based on feel, at the present time. If they last over 40K, I'll buy them again. They handle well, quiet enough, and the ride improved over the Toyo Proxes. Others mentioned a fuel mileage hit, that I'm not experiencing. I always assumed the 300TD would get better than that, however I've come to find that the mileage these vehicles get is oftenexaggerated in most for sale ads. I never drive for best mileage, so 23 mpg is the very best I've ever had on one trip to SF. Anyway, if these tires last halftheir treadlife warranty, I'll buy them again. We'll see if they are OK for rain,as soon as enough falls here.

My 300E gasser gets 26mpg highway (80mph)!
Tire pressure seems to have more of an effect on mileage than anything else.

The SD would only get 23-24 mpg when I bought it. With proper IP and cam timing, a 2.88 rear axle (which you have), and excellent valves, it now gets 29 without AC, provided that I don't exceed 67 mph. You could get the same thing if you did a bit of work. |

I gotten milage in the low teens.
And i've gotten milage right at 30. Mostly I am in the mid 20s. Primarily depends on how your drive. I coast to lights, maintain momentum, accelerate quickly to get to cruising speed (where you are most efficient) keep my windows up and AC off, etc etc etc. Mostly it's the driving. Though bumping up your air pressure a little might just increase it a little bit.

A 1985 car is 25 years old, and that's the dark ages of diesel technology given what's now current.
There's really nothing to be "surprised" about. An '06 E320CDI, for example, will easily return 35mpg highway and it's a rocketship and for sure faster than ANY 1985 Mercedes. In fact, so are the 4-cylinder diesels in European E-class. Your tire choice is basically the best there is for your car.

Your tire choice
After a couple of weeks or more living with this tire, I'm SO glad I spent the extra few bucks and purchased what I wanted. That said, I have not driven in a bad rain yet, or any kind of weather. They are smooth, quiet, responsive, I have no regrets. Also you have to realize that I was of two minds on this purchase. I was also considering USED tires for cheap. It cost me about 700.00 with mounting and balance, the front end alignment and such, but I'm keeping the car for the rest of my life so not that big a deal over time.I choked buying a Tempurpedic mattress as well, hehe, but over time, they both will be a great value. If the 60,000 mile tread warranty even gets close, I feel the tires were worth it so far.

I'm very close to 60K on my Primacy tires. I have them on my Altima and have been nothing but happy with them. One of them now has a very slow leak, and since I'm approaching the 60K mark, a new set will be had in a couple of weeks. My 89 might get a set of them as well!
