'94 E320 wheels on my 87 300D? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Hello all,

Can anyone give me a straight answer as to whether the factory wheels off a 1994 E320 W124 will fit my 1987 300D? Here are specifics on the wheels in question: Part # 1244011202, 6 1/2J x 15 H2, et44 (15" 8-hole wheels)

I've searched the wheels/tires forum and have found mixed answers (yes and no). I'm wanting to update the look of my car but at the same time keep everything else original. Meaning I want to keep the factory size tire on there (195/65/15) as I'm riding on very good Michelins anyway. From what I've read already I know the offsets are different between the two sets of rims (my originals being et49) but to be honest I don't know what that means because I know nothing about wheels.

I already picked up the set of four rims (which came with the center caps and factory lugs too) in the hopes they would just be a simple switch but after reading up some I need to find out 100% yes or no they will/won't work. The wheels in question are pictured below.

Any help would be appreciated.

They will fit and work fine, I have a set of those that I run as winter wheels on my '87 300D sedan.

The offset is 5mm different, which means that the tire/wheel will stick out of the fenders 5mm more than the original wheels, 25.4mm = 1inch.

I run 16 inch rims from a 210 on my 87 300D. They work fine, but I had a ball joint go out and did a real number on my fender. I wonder if the dammage would have been as bad if i had the narrower 15 inchers on there?

DieselClan, be sure to check that the thread projection (length beyond the back of a loose wheel) of the factory lug bolts for the 8-hole wheels is the same as your existing wheel/lug bolt combination. It's important to have the same thread engagement in the hub. If the new lug bolt thread engagement is longer it may damage your parking brake mechanism.

FWIW, I take loose wheels and tires to our local MB dealer for mounting/balancing because they use the 2-piece MB balance weights which look better than the 1-piece balance weights the tire stores use.

Thanks all for the replies. I got the wheels put on a couple days ago. Check out the pictures! I'll admit that I also got the wheels as a "milestone" present for the car. I'll be hitting 300,000 miles in the next 2-3 days. I'll try to take a picture of the occasion.

The car looks 100% better with the updated wheels especially considering the originals were in such poor shape. I've already washed them since putting them on and I'm loving it! My fingers don't get cramped cleaning them

Can anyone recommend a good product to use for cleaning them that won't harm the finish (they still have a nice finish to them)? It's going to be getting cold soon and I intended on cleaning them once a week to prevent brake dust build up on them but I can't stand putting my hands in a bucket of freezing cold water! Anything that is spray and rinse and will get most of everything??

DieselClan, recommend buying a boar's hair wheel brush from Griot's Garage (griotsgarage.com). The long handle wheel brush works well cleaning the 8-hole wheels. Maintaining a good coat of wax, or Rejex, on the wheels makes for easier cleaning.

Recommend Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash and the regular boar's hair brush to wash your car. Then wash the wheels last with the boar's hair wheel brush.

Kleen Wheels on the front wheels prevent a heavy accumulation of brake dust. I have used them for years despite some MB "experts" swearing against them, without any deleterious affects to the front rotors. Unless you drive very aggressively, or race your car, there should be no problem using Kleen Wheels.
