Can I put these wheels on my 300SD?

Can I put these Ronals on my 300SD without spacers? I don't know what the ET44 refers to.

How will these wheels effect mileage? Thanks

He already sold them. These were the specs: 205 60 R 15 Rim Size 6 1/2 J x 15 H2 ET44 Offset

It would be nice to know for future reference if I could use that size in case I find them again. Thanks

ET44 means 44mm offset. Kinda deep for a 126 but there should be minimal to no rubbing with steering linkage.

I imagine you'll use more fuel with overall wheel diameter smaller than original (205/70-14, right?) and possibly heavier wheels. Some places like Adsit and Performance Products sell that style wheel with the 20-25mm offset that works better in 126s.

Offset.

Distance, in mm, from the back lip of the rim to the wheel/hub mating surface, correct?

Jay.

What you describe is more like backspacing. Offset is the distance between the mounting surface and the wheel centerline. Negative offset means the wheels are offset towards the centerline of the car. The MB format ET spec is negative offset, and yes, the MB spec is in mm.

Sixto, I believe you are referring to positive offset. The wheel is closer to the centerline of the vehicle (the mounting face is further outboard) on a positive offset wheel.

The MB wheels are positive offset. The mounting face is closer to the outside of the wheel. A 23mm offset on the W126 puts the wheel further outboard than a 49mm offset on a W124. If you try to use the W124 wheels, they'll be too far inboard and potentially hit the tierod end.

also on a larger offset, the long nose hub of the 123/126 will protrude from the face of the wheel... ugly if it fits through the hole...

Brain's correct. The higher offset 124 wheels will sit closer to the wheelhouse and rub against things.

Most w126 stock wheels are in the low 20's. I had ET35 wheels on my one 126 for a winter and they were fine.

My friend tried to mount the ET44 w124 8-holes on this 300SE and they rubbed up against the rear wheelhouse. I cant speak to any issues up in the front of the car, I cant recall.

So to answer the OP's question: No those would not have fit the SD without spacers. You would have needed at least properly made 10mm hub-centric spacers and appropriately long lug bolts.

Thanks for all of the responses guys. Is the offset indicated on the rim, or do you need to measure it? I should probably make sure that the rims came off of a 126.
Forum member pawoSD directed me to tirerack.com where he picked up a set of aftermarket rims for his 300SD that look good and are reasonably priced IMHO.

Offset should be indicated on the back of the rim somewhere. Typically on a spoke or something. Tirerack is a good place. I bought a set of tires off them not to long ago, was pleased with the price and everything. I only bought one rim off them and it was to replace a bent 8-hole rim thats on my 126 right now. However the paint didnt quite match so I had to send it back. It apparently got damaged in shipping on the return
