Exclamation URGENT!! 17X8 rims w/ 225/45-17 on 300E -- WILL THIS WORK?

I'm getting 17X8 rims on the 1991, 300E -- and Dunlop SP9000 225/45-17 on the rims. The car has the sportline springs on it and bilsten struts.

Will this setup work?
What is the correct OFFSET?

Do I have to have the fenders rolled? If so, what's the cost of this?

THANKS!!!

David

I have 17x7.5 with 225/45/17 and the fenders HAVE to be rolld.

Offset on my wheels is 30. for you, I'm not sure on the offset, but you should be prepared to have your fenders rolled for sure.

Rolling fenders and offsets

Thanks Alon,

I thought as much with the rolling of fenders -- any guess on the cost at the sealer for that ?

Perhaps tirerack will have a suggestion on the offset - I have read many postings here about successes with this setup.

Rolling fenders should cost around $100 to $200 depending on where. a competent bodyshop can do it, and some tire stores can do it too.

MB writes in the manual that you can use 15x6.5 ET44 or 15x7 ET41 (for a 320 CE). The rims I bought have 17x7.5 ET35 which gives the same clearance to the strut like 15x7 ET41. A 17x7.5 ET37 would be 2mm nearer the strut and any closer to the strut than that I wouldn't put on.

I also asked my MB dealer for AMG wheels and they said that 17x8 ET28 would fit my car (which gives the same distance to the strut as a 17x7.5 ET35 rim). Good wheel offset calculator to use: http://toy4two.home.mindspring.com/offset.html

For stock suspension the Kumho 712 225/45ZR17 did rub the plastic side panels when I braked but not with 215/45ZR17 tires. I you lower the car (or load it full with stuff) you must roll both front and rear fenders. Also read the thread 'What are the widest tires that will fit 300 CE-24 alloys' where I have made some PDF-files on how to roll the fenders and some parts you can buy... /Patrik S.

I highly reccomend that you look at my webpage.
http://web.tampabay.rr.com/actionfit/wheeltech.html
I have spelled out what happens to your car with nearly the same wheel and tire set up.
I have an et of 35 for my 8" wheels, I would reccomed something in that range.
Look at the rest of my web site while you are there.

Subman Thanks -- Your W124 looks great

Subman,

Excellent site! I shall try with the off set at 35 then --

What is your tire size? Also 225/45-17?

I'm looking forward to the new addition to my car -- I going to get the fenders rolled before I put the new wheels on - as a safety measure!

Thanks

David

My wheels are an offset of 30, 17x7.5 they fit great, do not stick out, but I do need to roll my fenders I know that.

My car is lowered, but they do not rub unless I hit a good dip, and I go slowly over those.

no rubbing anywhere else.

I'm having my bodyshop friend roll them and possibly flare them out a bit if he can without doing any seriously major work to it.

Thumbs up The BIG rims and tires fit on the 300E !!

The combination works !!

There is NO rubbing on the rear wheels -- the fronts rub ONLY if I hit a speed bump at a fast speed (I guess that's the puirpose of the speed bumps) :-) However, the rubbing is very little - but I guess that I will get the front fenders rolled - though I can see that it is not truly necessary.

Rim size: 17"X8" (Ronal)
Offset: 35mm

Tires: 225/45-17 (Dunlop Sport SP 9000)

Cheers!

David

I have a picture of the car that's only 320 KB, but It won't download - it says it's too large! HELP!

Cool, I have just rolled my fenders myself. I will do a wright up very soon on it for my webpage so look for that within 2 weeks.

As for the images they must be 800 by 600 and no more then 66,000 bytes.

Upload them or email them to me and I will do it.
