Right tyre size

Learned Gurus,
I own a 1989 300CE with Brabus Monoblock II (17 x 8.5) wheels. Additionally I have lowered the car using Eibach lowering springs. For ride comfort, I have used Bilstein shockers (not the sport version). I do not seem to have any scraping problems. I currently use Michelin Pilot tyres size 225 45 17 and have done about 25,000 km. Of late, the car does not seem to perform as it has been. On high speeds especially around corners, the back seems to have a mind of its own. Can you guys please let me know if the tyre size I am using is correct and also the most compatible high performance tyres available. I am pretty heavy footed and do not want to compromise on tyre cost.
Thank you in advance for your advice.
