My Pirellis P6000 started cupping on the outer part of all four tires. Also lately I started to feel some vibration beginning at 45-50 MPH Alignment, shocks and suspention are all ok. Could this be the problem of P6000? What do I do? This drives me up the wall! I almost did everything possible and didn't help. What should i do ?
Anybody had thesame experience ?

peter,

Did you have them balanced with the weights only on the inside of the wheels?

In my experience there are two things that would do this and they both have to do with balance. It is very common for the tire shop people to set their machine to put the weights only on the inside on fancy wheels. The best thing to do to keep from scratching the clear lacquer on the wheels is to use regular weights on the inside rim, and tape weights as close as they can get them to the outside, but inside the rim. This relates to the other problem, many times the right type weights are not used on the outer rim and they come off, leaving the wheel imbalanced.

If this applies to your wheels, I'll bet that if you have them balanced properly with tape weights, your problem will be solved. As to whether or not it's too late to save this set of tires, I don't know, I haven't seen them.

Always see that your wheels are balanced inside and outside.

Good luck,

I had a similar problem when I recently had a tire tire on my 300e--virating at 65MPH+.
The vibrating began after the shop that changed the tire mounted the weights on the inside. I had the tires re-balanced and weights applied to the outside and that seems to have remedied the problem. I, too had cupping, (Uniroyals) but I was told that it was the result of improper tire rotation.

Good luck!

MB wheels use a special weight not often kept by tire stores. Like most German engineering it is reusable to save waste. A spring clip holds the weight to the wheel rim and works on both the inside and outside rim to get true dynamic balnce

One thing about tires that most people forget is that tires NEED to be rotated more often than every 15k miles. The tire people will tell you that every 8-10k miles your tires should be rotated & balanced, they make the tires! Read tire brochure that comes with most new cars. With P6000 tires NOISE is very common!

Peter,

We had the same problem with new Pirelli P6000's when we bought the car, freshly mounted only to have an annoying imbalance! What a quality tire.

The only fix was to take it the dealer and have them balance with OEM weights on the outside of the rim, Steve B was right, get the Mercedes equipment. Hope this helps
