Has this car ever had some serious bodywork?

The previous owner of my W123 had some minor damage to the left front fender straightened just before he died, and the result looked beautiful and totally like original bodywork until I first put wider than stock tires on it, at which point I discovered that the shop had recurved the fender line in the wheel arch area on the left side so that the tire fender lip was 1" closer to the tire than on the right side. The bodywork was so smoothly done and the paint so good that I hadn't paid attention to the contour of the fender as a whole until it the first time it rubbed while crossing a really deep drainage dip at an angle.

Not even so much as a fender bender. I am assuming that it is the Control arm bushings like Glen suggested. With 260,000 miles on the clock I am sure their due. They seem to be cracking quite a bit and my rubbing comes under hard breaking which I would think is due to the arm sliding a little. Thanks for your suggestions. Since I dont have the tool I'll have to take it to my mechanic. I'll let you know how it goes and how much it costs.
