We have one of those radios (like you have in your car) in a box in our basement, it came standard on the lower MB's....(this one was in a car in germany, my dad removed it and moved here and it kinda tagged along appearantly)
My original radio was in the car when I got it, it worked fine I suppose, but I wanted more than local FM radio, so I upped to a kenwood headunit + sirius satellite, best thing I have ever done. I later did the same to the 83, both cars are "high tech" now.
and it sounds great on the stock speakers, so no issues there.
