96 SL500. After I activate the alarm, about 10 minutes later it goes off. If I turn it off, it will go on again after about another 10 minutes. I have to lock the car with the key to bypass the alarm.

Is this the central alarm unit? If so how much do they run to replace? Can they be purchased aftermarket? And if I do disconnect it, can I still lock/unlock the doors via IR?
