Yes, the smell could very well be related to the brand of fuel too.
It is normal for the cat to smell, after the engine has been worked very hard ( passing, long uphill climbs, etc. ).
On 3/4 to full power, there is a lot of fuel processed ( sometimes slightly more than necessary ), which makes the cat work " overtime ".
Sorry, can't help you on the ABS issue.
