They USED to be reasonably priced, but that's not so true anymore. With everybody buying up all the old diesels for WVO, biodiesel or whatever, the prices have went WAY up. Seriously, for years, nobody really wanted that BMW, but now they seem to go for a premium... when they can be found.
Well now,that depends.

I almost bought a 524 on ebay with 117,000 miles and full service records,it wound up fetching $3,500.00 or so which is not out of line since the body and interior seemed perfect,and the seller did display recent suspension repair receipts.

Could always grab an old Peugeot Turbo diesel,still many around,VERY durable,fairly easy to obtain parts for and very comfortable seats.
