subject car is a 1983 280sl and motor is the twin cam 2.8 liter straight six fitted with five speed. Question: what other engines would work with that tranny and also fit in the sl?

Next, overall thoughts on this engine/tranny combination from a perspective of long term durability, ease (or lack of) of maintenance?

Lastly, what can be done to a 107 (that's what this is, right?) to improve the handling AND the straight line performance (engine mods, anyone?) of this car?
