Straight 50W Oil in a 603???
I went to a local (WELL RESPECTED) Mercedes Shop in Southern, CA. I talked to the tech who was impressed with my 1000.00 300SDL that I have been driving around for the past month. I asked him about oil and he said he did not like Synthetic, and he preferred straight 50W Penzoil. I have always been told NO PENZOIL cause of the PenStar Molecule actually being parafin. He said he liked 50W in the cars when they get over 100K miles or higher in miles... but that did not make sense to me. I was going to run a good 15w40 synthetic in the car just to keep the lifters nice and quiet and NOT clogged. I have almost 411K on my car, and it runs great... Give me some feedback guys and let me know what you think. I run Castrol Syntec FULL Sythetic in my BMW since that is what was recommended by the factory in a 5w30 FULL SYNTHETIC oil. This guys was all about 3K mile oil changes... GAK! I went with Synthetic in my Explorer cause as a daily driver I put 3K a month on the thing and was not into changing the oil once a month. I have no problem doing oil changes in the 6-7K range since I prefer the quality of the synthetic oil for this reason...
I need food now and will start to babble soon, so please feel free to give me some pointers. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing in a modern car such as the SDL? (I mean relatively modern...)
Peace
Aaron
