The things that I need to take care of are; new tires for the Chicago winter - The Michellins are horrible.

My 98 E320 had the same problem when I brought it back from San Diago. The original owner replaced the original tires with Michelins that were intended for summer driving. I ended up buying a set of snow tires (Michelin Pilot Alpine) and a set of knock-off rims that I switch out in the winter. Now the car handles like a 4WD vehicle.
You are also due for a spark plug change, Mercedes recommends 5 years or 100K miles which ever comes first. If you wait until 100K miles the plugs will be very difficult to remove. When I replaced my plugs I used anti-seeze on the threads and dielectic greese in the spark plug boots.
Good luck with your new Mercedes.
