I lived in MD almost my whole life,( well this far, at any rate--I hope its not my whole life...)
Snow here is an EVENT. You people in other states don't realize how much planning it takes to drive here. It takes years of practice to know which is the most critical intersection, and then experience and planning to be in that intersection at the critical moment--and then being able to twist your car sidweays enough to totally block up the intersection, and then the stealth, to abandon your car without being seen.
I tell you, its high art.
On a serious note, the snow is ofter a bit different than you folks in the real snow belt get. Ours is often, wet, and heavy, making more akin to ice than deep powder. It can be tricky, but it is negotiable--at least for long enough to get that intersection blocked.
