Did I buy the wrong voltage regulator for my 1995 C280 (with pics)

FIRST: Let me apologize for submitting this thread twice. I realized my title was not sufficiently detailed, so, I updated it. I can't make the updated title show in the forum thread list, so, I submitted the whole thing again with a good title - won't happen again, I swear!

So - my message (in a total panic, too, btw)...

Hi.

I have a faulty voltage regulator in my 1995 C280. I ordered what I believed to be the correct part from Phil, and proceeded to install it. What I now have is a car, dead in my driveway, with the alternator cover off (picture 1)

In removing the black alternator cover, one of the nuts made a "crack" sound. I was being gentle, but, obviously not gentle enough. The crack was an electrical lug breaking off. (picture 2 and 3).

I just don't see where this new voltage regulator goes, making me believe it's the wrong part - unless I just don't see it (picture 4 is the new regulator).

Can someone tell me what's going on here? If I have the correct one, where does it go?? I'm not usually so lame with repairs, but, I'm really stuck this time.

I can solder the broken lug back on using my heavy duty soldering gun unless there's some reason that's a no-no, but, I still have a bad regulator. Do I have the wrong one, or the right one?

I'd REALLY appreciate help with this one. My car's dead at this point, and I have kids to drive to school tomorrow. I'll certainly have to come up with a solution to that problem, but, the sooner I know what to do, the sooner I can order the right parts.

Thank you all, so much!!!

Kind regards,

Bill Griffith
