In your case an Octane booster will probably be OK but over doing it will just be a wast unless you do something to advance the timing or if you have a knock sensor. The truth is high octane fuels burn slower. Therefore to take advantage of them you need to compensate by advancing the spark or raising the compression.
Years ago I worked on Formula Atlantic race cars, every now and then we had to dump a tank of fuel from a car. Among the crew we used to fight over who got to put in there own car. If I recall the fuel we used in those cars was 118 Octane Cam 2. I used to put it right into my 69 Cutlass. The car would go noticeably slower but become extreamely quite. A boost in timing would have brought it to a higher performance level than stock.
