Perhaps you have it right, Bonehead.

I just have trouble imagining someone paying good money for a new car (in the 80s) and simply parking it for several decades. It makes little sense to me. These were not pesky and demanding Ferraris, these were pedestrian cars built and bought to be driven and used. Makes no sense to me.
