On the door side of each SEAT cushion [not the BACK cushion], there's a plastic hand grip. Pull up and forward, the cushion is hinged at the front. You can remove the cushion by lifting up on the red release handle in the center. The cushion has two slots one for each locating pin. The pins are metal and can snap and/or bend. It's a tight fit on the pins. Make sure they're not bent. When you fold the back cushion down, it has two metal brackets with holes that align to the pins. But to make the seat back fold flat, you have to pull out the head rests. Use a firm strong gradual push up because they're a tight fit. Under EACH head rest there is ONE hidden release button. Feel around near the guide rods, you have to hold the button down for the guide rods to completely release. You can store the headrests in the foot well.

There's a black metal plate about 1x1.5" at the bottom of the back cushion near the drive shaft tunnel. It connects to the back cushion locking mechanism. There's a pin in the door jam that locks the back cushion when the door is closed. With door open, you should be able to easily push it in and have is spring out. The back cushion is held in place by a loop in the seat back that catches a rotating hook in the body. The mechanism is virtually impossible to access with the back cushion up. If you're hesistant about the mechanism working properly, take it to a dealer and watch them do the gorilla kick. Have them lube it very well.

The more you release the back cushion and lube the catch mechanism, the easier they work. With the seat cushions removed there is about 6.5 feet from the front seat back to the taligate.

PS My Golden Retriever loves that WOOL carpet in the back. Fortunately, I have a tan interior and it cleans up easily with a little Woolite.
