Diff compatibility W201 W124 W126

Hi all,

I have an automatic '92 2.3 that could use a diff transplant. I was wondering whether similar bodies (like W124 and W126) use the same carriers, i.e. something that would just bolt on. I'm not so much worried about adapting ASD hydraulics or sensors as I am about fitting the 5 load bearing bolts (4 in the back, one to the underside) and the axles + yoke.

Any experiences? Anyone try swapping yokes on these?

Here is a table of ratios I found for w124&6. Several of them are quite close to the 2.85 and 2.87 found in late 201 bodies.

124-Series
  • ’90 - ‘91 --- 260E --------------------- 3.07
  • ‘92 ---------- 260E --------------------- 2.87
  • ’90 - ‘92 --- 300E/CE/E320 -------- 2.87
  • ’93 - ‘95 --- 300E/CE/E320/2.8 --- 2.65
  • ’92 - ‘95 --- 400E/E420 ------------- 2.24
126-Series
  • ’83 - '85 ---- US 380 SEC/SEL/SE ------- 2.47
  • ’84 - '85 ---- US / Euro 500 SEC/SEL --- 2.24
  • ’86 - '91 ---- Euro 560 SEC/SEL --------- 2.65
  • ’86 - ‘91 ---- US 420/560 SEL/SEC ------ 2.47
