I have a friend who needs a bit more space, has had diesel VWs, doesn't want an SUV, doesn't want a truck, and STILL wants to be semi-manly ...

He thought a MB wagon would be an interesting alternative - it occurred to me I don't know much about the years when they were available in US ... the 300D Turbo was available until sometime mid 1980s, then 300Es, but I can't recall the remainder of availability by year ...

Could someone help with what was available and when? If possible some comments on what they think of the diesels and gas models?
