Guys you have it easy!!!
liet me fill you in on insurance costs on this little island...
you have got two main types of insurance- fully comprehensive or 3rd party, fire and theft.
young guys here are paying through the nose, think E3000(USD 3600) for a crappy 1litre
city car, which could be 8years old, and only cost a fraction of the insurance.
one of the main reasons why premiums are so high is that the payouts are ridiculously high, although there have been moves recently to combat this, and an Injury Assessment Board set up.
road tax is based on the cc of the engine, running from approx E100 (US 120) for 1litre to E1100 (US 1300) for 3litre and above per annum.
the joy of driving a classic car (over 30yrs) here is that you pay only E44 road tax irrespective of cc. As far as insurance goes, most firms will only take on a classic as a 2nd car, limited mileage, max 10000. only one company, AFAIK, will take on classics as primary car, again with the mileage limit of 10k per annum, though you can opt for lower mileage bands and obviously cheaper insurance. at present, im using my 114 as my sole car, and its costing me in the region of E700 (US 850) pa
And petrol here is running about E4.77 a gallon (US 5.70)
Welcome to Rip-Off Ireland!
