The Kompressor, if it were to go out, would probably be available on an exchange basis, they sell you a rebuilt one and get your old one to then rebuild and sell to someone else. Would be worth checking on a price sometime if you really want to, but with proper oil change intervals, would really be strange to have one fail, really a pretty simple thing to build and not as prone to failure as a turbo-supercharger, much slower speeds involved and a Kompressor, once the engine it shut off it's not going to sit there and spin for a few minutes like a turbo will do. I don't think it would be feasable to swap in a naturally aspirated M111 engine, and a broken Kompressor unit wouldn't really make me automatically think "new engine time" anyways. The M111 is a good engine, will last a looong time if taken care of.
On the digital display, I've seen a few like this, usually has to be down below zero. If it really bothers you, I think the only real fix would be a new cluster, if you have an MB warranty (Starmark) it may be covered. You know who to ask.....
