The stuff you are calling 'horsehair' is probably NOT--it most likely is a wood product called 'excelsior' Horsehair padding will endure for centuries if not infested with rats, fungus (from continual wetting), or insects. Excelsior on the other hand deteriorates to crumbs in a decade or so and is a very poor choice of material for something you want to endure.
