This is just a guess, but on my older cars with analog clocks that began to slow down and then not run at all. The reason was that they needed to be cleaned and relubricated.

Analog clocks from older cars tend to gum up as they age. This is why, as they age, and the temperature drops that the first indication is that they start slowing down,and then eventualy stop running completly.
