The S/C has it's own oil supply.
It is just a few ounces of special oil that has nothing to do with the engine oil.
The smoke may have been an indicator that the S/C was seizing up, ( possibly the belt slipping ) due to a lack of oil.
It may have had a small leak & lost the few ounces it contained.
