Too much pressure or speed and you will burn/ the metal-

Then the bit just won't cut. If they are pretty hard, you can get a carbide drill bit instead of HHS. I'd say a steady light pressure with the right speed. You can stop and clean the chips off the bit too several times.

I'm glad I have not had this problem!!! Yuck!
